Type what you want in the prompt box on the homepage (or drop a CSV) and hit Generate. The AI Director drafts scenes and you land in the Studio with a playing preview. Edit anything — data, titles, theme, timing — then hit Export for an MP4. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in Tutorials → "Create your first chart video in 5 minutes".

Browsing, editing, and remixing templates work without an account — your work is saved in the browser's local storage. A free sign-in unlocks the AI Director (with a daily allowance — AI calls cost us real money), MP4 export, and cloud-saved projects. Without an account, prompts still produce a draft via the built-in heuristic director with clearly-labeled sample data.

Chartimator works best in recent Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers, which have the most mature WebCodecs video-encoding support. Firefox and Safari work for editing; if an export fails there, try Chrome.

First column = entity names, remaining columns = time periods, headers become period labels. For single-moment charts (rankings, donuts) use two columns: name and value. Currency symbols, commas, and percent signs are cleaned automatically.

The AI Director drafts real-world figures from its knowledge and lists its sources. They appear in the data grid with an amber "AI-researched — verify" badge. Always check them before publishing — every cell is editable.

CSV parsing and video rendering both happen in your browser. Data leaves your machine only if you use the AI Director — your prompt (and CSV, if attached) is sent to the model to draft the scene plan.

You can't convert a scene in place yet — add a new scene of the type you want from the "Add" row, and your data is quick to paste into its grid. Scene-type conversion is on the roadmap.

Click any cell in the data grid (sidebar), or flip the header switch to Data for a full-width grid. Add series with the button below the table; add periods with the + at the end of the header row; hover a row or column to reveal its delete control.

Each scene has Unit prefix and Unit suffix fields (e.g. "$" and "B"). They're rendered on every value label in that scene — bars, line tips, axis ticks, counters. A number without a unit is a wasted number; set them.

Themes (Minimal, Midnight, Neon, Editorial, Blueprint) set the surface, typography colors, and a colorblind-validated series palette. Motion (Hype, Smooth, Gentle) scales the timing of every animation — same choreography, different pace.

Hover a scene in the list for up/down arrows and a delete button. Scenes play in list order with an automatic crossfade between them.

The transport bar under the preview has a quality picker (480p/720p/1080p) and a fullscreen button. Preview quality never affects exports, which always render at full output resolution.

MP4 (H.264) in 16:9 (1920×1080), 9:16 (1080×1920), or 1:1 (1080×1080), at 30 fps. The file downloads directly — there's no upload or render queue because encoding happens in your browser via WebCodecs.

Beta exports carry a small "Made with Chartimator" mark. Watermark-free export will be part of the Pro plan.

Try Chrome or Edge (best WebCodecs support), close other heavy tabs, and re-export. If it persists, shorten the video and try again — and tell us: a report with your browser version helps us fix it.

Yes — videos you export are yours, for any use including monetized channels and client work. You're responsible for the accuracy and rights of the data you put in them.
